This roundtable talk will explore strategies for using platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn to enhance recruitment and retention efforts. Participants will learn how to highlight their department’s culture, share compelling stories, engage prospective volunteers, and build an online presence that supports long-term membership growth. Practical tips, examples, and best practices will be provided to help departments maximize their reach and strengthen their R&R initiatives.

As a retired US Air Force recruiter, he continues to be enthusiastic about recruiting techniques and focusing on ways organizations can create a more diverse workplace, address equity issues and foster inclusivity. Walter is a certified diversity and inclusion thought leader, recruitment and retention strategist, and morale & humor enhancement professional. |
Brittney Deo
Brittney’s mission is to help communicate the NVFC’s initiatives through engaging storytelling and innovative digital strategies. Joining the NVFC in 2024, Brittney focuses on digital media including social media management, outreach campaigns, and e-communications. She has 15 years of expertise as a former writer/producer in broadcast news and digital marketing consultant. Having a personal connection to the fire service family through her firefighter husband, Brittney is dedicated to amplifying the voices of volunteer firefighters nationwide.
Tim Gibson
Tim Gibson has extensive experience in fire and emergency services, focusing on training, development, and leadership. He is currently the Division Chief-Training at Northwest VFD and an Adjunct Faculty at Lone Star College System. Previously, he served as Director/Chief at Waller-Harris Emergency Service District 200, Fire Chief at City of Plainview Fire Department, and Managing Director at Harris County Emergency Service District 9. He has held various roles in training and development at multiple organizations, including Harris County Emergency Service District 13, Lone Star College System, City of Katy FD, and Cy-Fair VFD. Additionally, he has military experience in the United States Air Force and Air Force Reserve. His educational background includes a Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences from Texas A&M University-Commerce and partial completion of a Master of Public Administration from Texas Tech University. He holds numerous certifications in fire and EMS, including Executive Fire Officer from the National Fire Academy and Fire Service Chief Executive Officer from TEEX, both in 2017. Tim's 41 years in public service all started as a volunteer firefighter in 1985, and today he still trains and supports the volunteer community.
Savannah Maddison
Savannah Maddison is a firefighter, social media influencer, and passionate advocate based in Nashville, TN. She serves as the Public Information Officer (PIO) for the Maury County Volunteer Fire Department and is an Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) with the Nashville Fire Department. A dedicated advocate for heart health, Savannah was honored as the 2024 Woman of Impact by the American Heart Association for her efforts to raise awareness and drive positive change.
In addition to her emergency services career, Savannah is a published author with Random House Publishing, a prominent media personality, and a leading figure in the digital space, where she has garnered hundreds of thousands of followers on Instagram and TikTok through her advocacy, inspiring content, and community engagement.
